Thank You

To all who volunteered at the BVA Family Fun Fair on September 15. Your efforts helped provide a great event for all who attended and allowed Villagers to meet and get to know their neighbours. A big thank you to everyone who helped and everyone who attended.  BVA also wishes to express their gratitude to Canadian Tire, Sheridan Nurseries, and John Gerber for their generous donations.

Size Does Matter

It is impossible to see house numbers on many Bayview Village homes. In the evening street numbers are often unlit - therefore invisible or are hidden behind vegetation. On some homes there is not even a number.  Toronto bylaws specify a minimum number size – depending upon the distance of the number from the road (or curb).  In the case of single-family residential properties, municipal numbers must be at least a minimum size as follows:

Maximum Curb Setback

Go outside at night - Stand on the street!!

See if your address is easily visible.

Remember, police, ambulance, & fire services need to assist you:

Your number should "Jump Out" at them!!!

Get Out and Walk - Walking is one of the best and most popular of the exercises. We are fortunate that Bayview Village offers beautiful streets to stroll through as well as easy access to a wonderful ravine system.

Here is a map detailing the access points and walkways through the East Don Parkland. Take the time to enjoy the fall colours – Get Out and Walk.

 Traveling Tips

— When getting ready to travel, be sure to book your trip through a reputable agency. You can find out if an agency is registered by calling Travel Industry Council of Ontario at 1-888-451-8426 or by going to www.tico.on.ca

— Have someone you trust check your home while you are away on vacation. Ask them to pick up your mail and papers, or better still, ask for your mail to be held until you come back from your vacation.

— Be sure that someone is shoveling your driveway in the winter and cutting your grass in the summer. A lived in look will give an outsider the impression that someone is at home.

— Have your lights on timers that would normally reflect your schedule. This way, it appears from the outside that your routine has not changed.

— Let someone know where you are going and expect to be back. If you come home early or stay longer, be sure to notify them.

— Have a neighbour park their car in your driveway while you are away. You can also suggest that they put some of their extra garbage at the end of your driveway on garbage day.
